I recently came up with an idea for Alaska in lieu of budget problems and wildly fluctuating oil prices and the high cost of living.
Having grown up in the midwest, I remember the "farmers coops" that allow farmers to buy farm products at lower prices because of the buying power of all the coops members. There are also electric and grocery coops in many parts of the country... So, why not create an Oil Coop? Oil and gas companies would gladly sell their crude oil and natural gas to the members coop for refining and distribution to members at reduced prices!
Wow, what an idea! Imagine the people of a huge oil state, paying less for gasoline instead of more. And, for good reason: It's our oil!
